I think now you know enough for the
serious learning to speak russian. Today i wrote to you some dialogs. You should
say it in russian. If you understand russian phrases, you will speak russian too.

Ok, a simple dialog in russian:

Александр: Привет!

Дарья: Привет, как дела?

А: У меня все хорошо, а у тебя?

Д: У меня тоже хорошо, спасибо.

А: Как твоя семья поживает?

Д: Они тоже хорошо.

Could you read it? Did you understand that dialog?

Now tis dialog, but in latin letters:

Aleksandr: Privet!

Darya: Privet, kak dela?

A: U menya vsye horosho, a u tebya?

D: U menya tozhe horosho, spasibo.

A: Kak tvoya sem'ya pozhivaet?

D: Oni tozhe horosho.

Did you understand about what did they speak? Use a dictionary's in my last
posts to translate this dialog into english. There are only two words you won't
find there: Тоже - Tozhe - Too and Семья - Sem'ya - Family.

After the translation it should be so:

Aleksandr: Hello!

Darya: Hello, how are you?

A: I am fine, and you?

D: I am fine too, thank you.

A: How are your family?

D: They are fine too.

That's all! If you do everything correctly you'll speak russian!

I am sorry for my english, if something is wrong. Russian language is really difficult, besides having a another type of alphabet, there are a lot of unusual and uncommon sounds in Russian language and some people never get to pronounce them correctly. Also the grammar is very complicated and unusual compared to other languages. Picking up some Russian means that if one day you happen to travel to Russia, you will avoid some inconveniences of the language barrier. Linguistic groups in Russia run the gamut from Slavic (spoken by more than three-quarters of the population) to Turkic, Caucasian, Finno-Ugric, Eskimo, Yiddish, and Iranian. Russification campaigns during both the tsarist and communist eras suppressed the languages and cultures of all minority nationalities. Although the Soviet-era constitutions affirmed the equality of all languages with Russian for all purposes, in fact language was a powerful tool of Soviet nationality policy. The governments of both the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation have used the Russian language as a means of promoting unity among the country's nationalities, as well as to provide access to literary and scientific materials not available in minority languages. According to the Brezhnev regime, all Soviet peoples "voluntarily" adopted Russian for use in international communication and to promote the unity of the Soviet Union.Beginning in 1938, the Russian language was a compulsory subject in the primary and secondary schools of all regions. In schools where an indigenous language was used alongside Russian, courses in science and mathematics were taught in Russian. Many university courses were available only in Russian, and Russian was the language of public administration in all jurisdictions in all fifteen Soviet republics. Nevertheless, the minority peoples of the Russian Republic, as well as the peoples of the other fourteen Soviet republics, continued to consider their own language as primary, and the general level of Russian fluency was low (see The Post-Soviet Education Structure, ch. 5). In the mid-1990s, in every area of the federation, Russian remains the sole language of public administration, of the armed forces, and of the scientific and technical communities. Russian schools grant diplomas in only two minority languages, Bashkir and Tatar, and higher education is conducted almost entirely in Russian.Although Russian is the lingua franca of the Russian Federation, Article 26 of the 1993 constitution stipulates that "each person has the right to use his native language and to the free choice of language of communication, education, instruction, and creativity." Article 68 affirms the right of all peoples in the Russian Federation "to retain their mother tongue and to create conditions for its study and development." Although such constitutional provisions often prove meaningless, the non-Slavic tongues of Russia have retained their vitality, and they even have grown more prevalent in some regions. This trend is especially visible as autonomy of language becomes an important symbol of the struggle to preserve distinct ethnic identities. In the 1990s, many non-Russian ethnic groups have issued laws or decrees giving their native languages equal status with Russian in their respective regions of the Russian Federation. In the mid-1990s, some 80 percent of the non-Slavic nationalities--or 12 percent of the population of the Russian Federation--did not speak Russian as their first language.Data as of July 1996(from a U.S. Govt. Report)

Thank you! This is the end! I will write a little dictionary for you for the next post!

Russian alphabet

МToday i want to show you alphabet of russian language. I think you will like it. This is only a little part of my telling you about our country. I'll try to write posts about Russia one time a week.

Russian Culture has always been considered a unique phenomenon in the world.

The leading theatre companies for ballet are the Bolshoi in Moscow (dating to 1776) and the Mariinski in St. Petersburg (founded in 1735). Russian ballet had a formative role in Western dance through a number of figures, such as Sergey Diaghilev and Vaslav Nijinsky.

Russia's most characteristic architectural feature is its onion-domed churches, which evolved when the wooden churches of the north were translated into brick and colorful tile work. In the world of art, religious icons, futurism and revolutionary graphic art are instantly recognizable Russian forms. Everywhere in Russia it is possible to see majestic Orthodox cathedrals and churches, perfect frescos and icons. Until present days the Russian church holidays save charm of ancient national traditions.

The country's best-known writers are those of the 19th and 20th centuries. Writers whose influence is being felt throughout the world are for instance Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol, Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Mikhail Bulgakov, Alexander Solzhenitsyn and many more.

That's all. Ok, and here i want to show you the map of Russia. As we know Russia is the biggest country in the world, that's why the is so big!

Let's learn the first word

Hello!

Today i want you to learn the the first word in Russian. Not only one word, i want to tell you about the greatings in Russian. I hope you will understand Russian words and you will be able to say them.
Ok, the first word is "hello"! In Russia this is "Preevet". When somebody met his friend or his other familiar he says "Preevet". It means "hello", "hi". But Russians can't say "hello" to older or dear men. In this case we have a word "Zdravstvuitee". There is not such word in English language that's why i can't give you it's equivalent.
Now you know about the word "hello". And what about "good day", "good morning", "good afternoon", "good evening"? So:

Hello - Preevet
Hello (to older men) - Zdravstvuitee
Good day - Dobrii den'
Good morning - Dobroe utro
Good afternoon - Dobrii den'
Good evening - Dobrii vecher
and:
Bye - Poka
Bye (to older men) - Dosvidaniya

This was the first lesson!
